Weekend
We had the chance this past weekend to make a quick visit down to see Grandma and Grandpa's new house. It has been a long time coming and we are all so happy that they are finally getting settled again.

Cardboard House Races
We had so much fun with the cardboard box houses we made a few weeks ago but they were much too large to keep inside for too long. The girls were hesitant to give up their houses so we had to come up with a bit of a creative way to say goodbye to them.
The fact that they insisted on carrying their boxes back up the hill each time was an added bonus when bedtime came around. They were asking for bedtime.
After a while Kinsley's box was no longer race worthy so they decided to combine forces and make Kait's box into a double racer.
A memory that we are likely to remember for years to come, at least I know I will.

This Moment...

{this moment}
A Friday ritual inspired by Soulemama. A single photo - no words - capturing a moment from the week. A simple, special, extraordinary moment. A moment I want to pause, savor and remember. If you're inspired to do the same, leave a link to your 'moment' in the comments for all to find and see.

Outdoor crafting
The weather here has been absolutely ideal lately and we've been out soaking up as much of it as we can. It's wonderful, but unfortunately means that not a lot of time has been spent inside near the sewing machine. Thankfully I have a few projects in the works that are easy to take along outside.
I've been working on a bit of a decoration to hang over our table in our crafting/learning space. I am hoping it turns out as well as it looks in my mind. It's a great way to practice my embroidery stitches too. Embroidery seems to have taken over the house as a whole. Both girls are working away on their own little embroidery projects too but I'm not allowed to share them quite yet.
If you haven't seen this book though, Doodle Stitching by Aimee Ray, you really need to give it a look. The designs inside are incredibly adorable and I love the added cd so that I can resize the images to fit whatever project I am working on. It is being put to very good use around here. The girls love to ooh and aah over all the pretty designs and keep coming up with new ways to use them.

Books by Kinsley
October already. The days certainly seem to move quicker as the years go by. There are so many reasons I am thankful to have my children with me every day, the passing of time is only one of them. Already the years have gone by in the blink of an eye, soon (most likely sooner than I want to admit) they won't be small at all. I am thankful to have them here so that we can experience so much together. It is also why I take so many pictures, to keep them as reminders of these days. Moments that I might have missed if things were different in our lives...moments that might never have happened.
Moments like Kinsley and her books. For weeks Kinsley wanted to do nothing but make her own story books. Lots of time went into creating these small paper books. She spent ages working on the perfect illustrations and knew just exactly where her story was going to take her. She would bring each page to one of us and tell us exactly what it was to say. Several times she would repeat herself just to make sure there was no chance of a mistake. We'd find her in various places around the house, working diligently on her stories, not wanting to take a break for much of anything really.

They turned out to be very sweet little stories. Each one very specific, and each one different.
It wasn't until there was a great stack of books that she let us in on her plans for them.
A book sale, complete with lemonade. She was so proud of her sale and was ready for the rush of customers that would surely come her way.
Of course, not being in town means that customers were a bit hard to come by from time to time.
Thankfully there was a little sister handy who was always willing to play the part of happy customer to fill the time. At the end of the day she managed to sell all of her books and lemonade to the various customers that were lovely enough to stop by.

Carnival
The past week (and weekend) absolutely flew by. There wasn't much crafting happening, and even less writing, but there was certainly a lot of fun going on. The annual carnival in town was this past weekend and the girls could hardly contain their excitement. Of course if you had to wait "fifty hundred days" for the carnival you'd be pretty excited too.

Michaelmas
I give to you a cape of light
to give you courage, strength and might.
You have polished your sword so strong, so bright
use it only for the right.
Today we celebrate together, a celebration of bravery and courage. As we prepare for the fading of outer light as the seasons change, we turn inward and find our own strength that burns within ourselves. For us Michaelmas is a time for facing our own fears and finding the bravery that lies within.
Happy Michaelmas.
Happy Michaelmas.
